Since the COVID-19 pandemic forced the world into various lockdowns, the once buzzing London streets and tourist attractions which were highly popular with locals and visitors alike, have become eerily silent. However, the end is in sight and there’s light at the end of the tunnel. With this in mind, the team here at DateinaDash have compiled a list of the top 10 things to do on a date when all restrictions are FINALLY lifted.
Gorge out at a street market
With oodles of street markets open in London, many of whom are already open for takeaway, why not visit a market on your date, and explore the delicious treats on offer? Choose from Broadway Market, Borough Market, Maltby Market, Camden Market, Pop Brixton and Berwick Street Market and many more, and soak up the atmosphere, browse the market stalls and chat away in the sun!
Crazy Mini Golf in Battersea Park
If you’re looking for a quirky post lockdown date in London, crazy golf is a definite winner, time and time again. Take your date to Battersea Park and have a ball (quite literally) in the sunshine. Guaranteed to make you laugh and easy-going, this outdoor date is great for anyone unsteady about meeting up inside!
Doodle Bar
If you prefer your creative pursuits to be a little less structured, we have the perfect date idea. Head on over to Doodle Bar in Bermondsey. Here, you can ignore your parents' requests NOT to doodle on the walls of your home and get creative. What’s more, there’s more fun to be had with ping pong tables if you fancy a quick game or two, and tasty burgers with all the sides in case you get the full-on munchies while you’re expressing yourself all over the walls.
London Shuffle
Live or socialise in Shoreditch? We’ve got the perfect date idea for you! If you and your new date are big kids at heart, London Shuffle is fun, quirky and easy to join in with. Battle it out on the lanes and try your hand at an alfresco game for guaranteed giggles and a sense of adventure. And to top it off, once you’ve finished your game, why not head to the covered terrace to sip gorgeous cocktails at the Airstream bar.
Hampstead Heath Life
Pandemic or no pandemic, walking around Hampstead Heath is always a great idea for a date. Climb your way up to Parliament Hill for a view of our glorious city below, do some dog watching and watch the brave souls taking a dip in the cold ponds in the sizzling heat this Summer.
Catch a flick on the big screen
If you’re a movie fan, you’ve no doubt indulged in your fair share of films and series while surviving lockdown. You definitely aren’t alone! But while there’s been plenty of time to enjoy incredible movies at home, there’s nothing quite like the big screen to make it into a truly memorable experience. And, with the big screen at the British Film Institute being the biggest screen in Europe - watching a movie here will be on a lot of movie lovers' post-lockdown lists. We’d say this would make a great post lockdown date idea.
Explore the capital on a scooter
Seeking a COVID friendly date in the city? Hiring a couple of scooters for a tour of London will see you zooming around on two wheels. Take in the stunning sights of Buckingham Palace, Hyde Park, and the famous Houses of Parliament along the way. We guarantee that you’ll never get sick of the sights of London, especially when you explore it in a new and unique way, with your gorgeous new date!
God’s Own Junkyard
If you’re looking for Insta worthy photo opportunities, you seriously can’t beat this venue! Hop on the Victoria line to the end, all the way through to Walthamstow Central. Here, you’ll discover God’s Own Junkyard and its super amazing gallery of neon lights. One of the best bits about this date is there’s no entrance fee to get in. The friendly owner Chris has been collecting the neon lights for almost 40 years, and also makes his own! It’s pretty damn impressive so why not rock up, enjoy a stroll through his delightful collection, and then stop for a snack in its Rolling Scones café?
The Barbican Conservatory
Now open seven days a week and completely free to visit, The Barbican Conservatory is definitely not to be missed! If you’re up for exploring this hidden gem, don’t forget that tickets are released one week in advance online, so we recommend that you book your free ticket before visiting. As the second biggest conservatory in London, The Barbican Conservatory is home to over 2,000 species of tropical plants and trees. It is a magnificent tropical oasis and a great place to relax and chat, flirt and mingle with your date. Plus, there’s even a café inside meaning there’s even more reasons to visit!
Drive-in fun on wheels
Looking to spice up your date nights with your new love interest? It’s time to check out Four Wheel Events and their series of drive-in experiences. Putting on live music sets, hilarious comedians and more, these super popular retro-style set ups are sure to get you and your date chatting, laughing and flirting with each other! And to top it off, you can enjoy a great selection of food and drinks, all served direct to your car. It doesn’t get much better than that, hey?
