How To Transition Back Into Dating In A Post-Lockdown World

Published on 6 Jun 2021 0 comments Leave a comment

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, dating face to face in London has been pretty non-existent. With social distancing, ‘bubbles’, several lockdowns and restrictions in place, times have been super hard and impacted almost every aspect of our lives. So, it’s not surprising that many people in the UK are anxious about getting back into the dating game, or hanging out with singles who haven’t yet been vaccinated.

Also, some singletons may well be newly single since the pandemic. Many of those who had been in long-term relationships and were already living together found that being locked down together was too much to handle. They now find themselves single for the first time in a while, with a whole new dating scene in London about to unfold.

Have a delve into our blog about things to consider with dating in the post-lockdown world with some of our helpful tips.

A Return to Normal?

During the pandemic, and as the restrictions start to ease again (roll on Freedom Day!) singletons might notice a few differences in how they, and others, operate. A recent poll on social media showed that 67% of respondents felt that dating after lockdown would return to normal while the remaining 33% felt that COVID-19 has changed the dating game.

Firstly, it’s been great to see how some ultra-keen daters have become through the various UK lockdowns. As DateinaDash knows first-hand, our exclusive dating venues have been shut down and creative new ideas have become the norm. When DateinaDash were unable to carry out our face-to-face London speed dating events and singles events across the city, we had to switch things up a gear.

Offering highly successful online speed dating events, singles saw themselves enjoying video chats with a glass of wine, or Netflix parties over the waves. When things allowed it, socially distanced walks around outdoor spaces became super popular but the yearn to return to speed dating events in exclusive London venues was still very strong.

More Serious Relationships After Lockdown?

As experts in the world of dating, we think lots of singles will be looking for more serious relationships post-COVID-19, and we can certainly see why this would be. Maybe dating after Freedom Day will be a little more formal than previous as people shy away from going in for a hug or a kiss upon first meeting? Or maybe people will let their hair down and lose all of their inhibitions? Who knows what will happen, but one thing is for certain. There will be far less judgement before as your safety is the most important thing, and you need to continue to do whatever you feel comfortable with.

Another interesting consideration here; maybe more serious discussion topics will be introduced earlier in the dating process? This is because of everyone’s heightened awareness of our personal safety, who is dating who, and what contact people have had with who.

Significantly, lockdown has given most of us more time to think about what we want out of life. While the appeal of speed dating is getting to know lots of people in a fun and exciting way, there may be more forthcoming conversation in the world of dating after lockdown. Of course, this doesn’t apply to all; some singles may simply want to enjoy dating for a while longer before getting serious and that is absolutely fine too.

More Confidence?

Some people may have found that the lockdowns have helped their anxiety as it’s taken away some of the pressures some people experience with dating. This is particularly true for those loving the fact they can happily lounge around in their comfys without needing to leave the house, all while video dating with a London single!

However, as London’s #1 speed dating hosts, DateinaDash think that many people come out of the pandemic feeling more confident. Some may have felt anxious and worried at the beginning but staying safe at home has made them feel more relaxed over time. Furthermore, many people have realised that life is short and they have a new zest for life which they want to grab on to with both hands. Taking hold of the few freedoms we still have, many singletons are eager to start meeting up with likeminded singles again.

Dating After Lockdown

As we’ve explained previously, dating after lockdown will be in a fresh and creative manner. Maybe some speed daters will want to vet whether their possible matches have been vaccinated or would get vaccinated when offered- we’ll just have to watch this space and see what the future holds. One thing is for sure, the Coronavirus pandemic will certainly crop up in conversation at some point in the evening!

Looking to the future, we’ll be following all advice on meeting up inside venues for London speed dating events, and singles events but we cannot wait to be able to offer our highly successful events very soon! After 21st June, there will be no restrictions at our events and we couldn’t be happier! Let the countdown begin!
